Polly Wants a Cracker

But she's already had one too many.

It's the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year and I'm already suffering the symptoms of over-consumption of new year snacks. Even if I ignored the calories, the amount of trans-fat and carcinogens I'm taking into my body over the last week would cause my downfall within the next five to ten years. All this eating, coupled with a bout of dry weather is making me dehydrated all the time, bringing the onset of a sore throat and a couple of mouth ulcers.

Bad, bad, greedy Polly.

Time to start on my detox tomorrow. No doubt its not scientifically proven to work but I think it will make me feel a bit better about myself. :)

My Goodness I am Tired.

Cooked and washed and cooked and washed today. As if my life was like a microwave and dish washer combined. (Now that's quite a brilliant idea, people should already be manufacturing such things)

I think I did a kick-ass sandwich today. It was made for Gooey-Gecko. I even served it with an iced matcha latte to go with it, just right for this hot Sg weather. "Why so nice of me?" you ask. Or more accurately "Why so nice of you?".

Well, doesn't it look appetizing? Or wut?

Because I can. And because I wanted to show him my skills in the culinary realm has grown leaps and bounds (All thanks to Food Network channel and all those Masterchef episodes I studied with Pushy). I passed with flying colours. And then let him spread the word to Poppadum and Nagalot. Which I doubt will happen... but.

But anyway I think he enjoyed the concoction very much. It was an awesome sandwich with the simplest ingredients but all fresh. Fresh is good. Thinking about the 'wich I made is stirring a growl in my tummy. Because I'm greed. Gosh I wish I tasted it.

I mean.. just look at it!

You may ask "If you didn't taste it, how did you know it was good?" or.. you may not care two hoots about what I think you wanted to ask. That doesn't matter. What mattered was that Gooey-Gecko was asking me about the ingredients of the 'wich after swallowing every morsel of it. GG said he has plans to introduce my toasted 'wich into his business plans and make moolahs from it.

That, my friends, is a huge compliment, if you haven't yet noticed. And so I am very pleased and went on to do dinner for Nagalot several hours after. Nagalot didn't say much while lapping the meal I made for her, but I knew she pretty much enjoyed it. Because if she didn't she would have nagged-a-lot.

Confidence boosted by another compliment (albeit silent one), I used up the leftover ingredients and prepared tomorrow's breakfast for Pushy and myself. A regret I can't make it fresh in the morning - morning hours are just too tight - but I've done the half-cook trick so tomorrow's heating up of breakfast should not overcook it too much.

Will let you in on how it goes....
Until then, bonne nuit! Because.. my goodness, am I tired out or wut!

Early Poppa's Day

Poppa's Day arrives this Sunday, and for each Poppa's Day we usually get a nice meal outside together. Today we attacked Pu Tien at Nex. Think their service was not as good as during my last visit. Maybe the crowd was too overwhelming?

Food pictures.

My Fascination with My Pastry

There was this small scale food fair going on at the subway station near my place, there were pushy-carts peddling snacks and small packed meals and accessories. These guys come and go throughout the year with absence of one or one plus month in-between.

I expected guests to pop by tonight so was planning the food and entertainment. It's the first time in a long while since I invited any friends. The Poser Place is always in a doggone mess! With GooeyGecko's help we managed to make PoserPlace more homely and less like a sty. I think still a lot of work to do but at least the place is clean to live in now.

On the menu for tonight - Pizza. But what about dessert? My friends like desserts so I went to explore the options from the pushy-carts. Found this cart selling cakes and the flavours - avocado and lavender/chocolate looked really, really familiar. I took a sample and realised I found the supplier which my friend D had engaged with while she was running her cafe. Snapped up a selection of avocado, lavender/chocolate and also a brownie for 10 bucks and was pleased as a puppy. The cakes they have are generally the sponge-based kind and the flavours rather unique. Each serving the size of about 18cm by 8cm. The price makes these cakes a good deal.

So I went home and googled the name of the supplier and found these details.

Because I ate up all the leftover cake I don't have pictures to show. Next time, buddy. Otherwise google pictures posted by others if you have interest, I saw some lurking.

Home made new year cookies are good stuff

Until they begin to turn bad...

Home made new year goodies have no preservatives so must finish eating in 2 weeks' time!

Now I'm stuffing my face with home made new year pineapple tarts so they won't go the way of the mold.

Burp!

"Hi can I get your order?"

I don't know, can you?

See, Pushy took time out to bring me for luncheon today. We I wanted to see the new Nexus mall around the block so Pushy trailed along. We parked a looong way from the mall. Approaching the mall entrance there were about 55 people shoving brochures of different kinds into our faces. Spa & beauty.. Food.. Hair services.. Shoes.. Food.. Laundry.. More food.. Brochures of all genre.

We picked only the food ones and threw the rest away. Environmental amiability has gone to the dogs. Amongst the several food brochures a buffet high-tea one caught our attention. I like buffets. I like buffets but I feel bad suggesting to eat buffet when I know I tend to complain of over-eating after I do justice to the buffet. Pushy could tell all these from the little twitch at the corner of my eye... and then we found ourselves checking ourselves into the cafe.

The cafe.. I quite liked its ambience, it had a piney fragrance because everything was from Ikea - Land of Piney Smelling Furniture. Happily Joyfully and Gracefully, we informed the staff we will be having our buffet high tea, and proceeded to discuss the food order using the food order form provided to us.

(10min later)

One staff came and muttered something under her breath, something about the salad bar not being ready. That would indicate the high tea buffet was not available. She politely informed us that if we want to try their buffet we can come back tomorrow to try it. Otherwise if we wanted to try the buffet items today we could order them ala carte. Ho hum.

So ok we went back to the food brochure and decided to take the set lunch instead. We informed another staff and the staff informed us that the set lunch is not available because the salad bar was not ready. Sigh.

Deterred, Pushy and I looked around to find food inspirations from other tables. To our horror and amazement, no one at other tables had managed to order anything - there was no food. We were all sitting there like ducks. Sitting ducks.

Ok back to the menu. Ala carte section in the menu was fabulously done up, nice pictures & many words and good variety. I wonder how much of that was available. Anyway the prices were atrocious so Pushy and I ordered only the more worthy stuff.

All in all, I liked the piney smell of the place. And I think that's about it.

All in all in all, it is very strange to distribute the flyers selling promotional meals and then everything is unavailable and then pray that the customers will not order those. I wonder what the cafe management was thinking there. What a waste of time!   X(

Ho Hum.

Popiah my Bundle of Joy

Popiah from Wiki:
Popiah (Hokkien: pȯh-piáⁿ) is a Fujian/Chaozhou-style fresh spring roll common in TaiwanSingapore, and Malaysia. Popiah is often eaten in the Fujianprovince of China (usually in Xiamen) and its neighbouring Chaoshan on the Qingming Festival. It is sometimes referred to as runbing (潤餅) or baobing(薄饼) in Mandarin. In the Teochew (Chaozhou) dialect, popiah is pronounced as "Bo-BEE-a",[1] which means "thin wafer" (also in the Hokkien dialect).
Basically you can put anything in the popiah skin, which is made out of wheat flour, roll it up and call it a popiah.

The ones commonly seen over here are made out of soft-boiled turnip filling, beansprouts, lettuce leaves, slices of hard boiled egg, lined with a chilli-prawn paste-garlic-peanut mixture and rolled into a Bundle of Pollie's Joy! Some popiahs contain thinly sliced prawn too.. but with the prawn so thinly sliced, I can't feel it when I chew anyway so prawns are optional.

Today's breakfast..
My popiah came in a packet.

Cross section of the popiah..

Yum yum I love it!

My heart beats for...

You...

Continental by Thorntons

You...
Kinder Happy Hippo by Ferrero

You...
Various flavours by A Lot of Chocolate

And You!!!
Pushypanda, artist's impression

Not forgetting the fact that my heart beats to pump blood to carry oxygen, remove carbon dioxide, carry nutrients and fluids to every single cell in my body.

Maybe my heat beats faster now because of the amount of bad cholesterol I have in my blood stream from the excessive consumption of Thorntons & A Lot of Chocolate.

On this note I bid you good night.

I am not dead.

I am back to say that I am not dead, and neither did I give up on my little sacred space of infinite self-reflection. I've just recovered from a busy period at work, so now I'm starting to let loose and reflect on the rights and the wrongs, the birds and the bees. Hmm, that didn't sound right.

Nevertheless, I'd like to share with you on what I've learnt.

I'd learnt that, if.. u binge on Indian cuisine at a celebratory meal after a busy period, u will generally get sick, and can get very sick all rather suddenly. I'm telling you this from first-hand experience so yáll better believe it. Resultingly i didn't enjoy my weekend as I was nursing a headache, a really sore throat and a nose that was partially runny and partially blocked.

The horrors of a partially runny/blocked nose - I couldn't decide whether to blow it or not. The first option would leave me with an even worse headache, and the latter would leave me with... well, a very messy face. I had to go to bed with 2 tissues rolled up and stuck into each nostril.

Well I wouldn't want to bore you with the details.

So all in all, if u had a long 3 weeks with lots of OT done, please do your health a favour and eat food that is easily digestable, non-spicy and less oily. Lest you wanna end up like moi, la dee da.

O'yes, happy 1st of February, everyone!
Good nite!!

Polly, Palak Paneer and the Electric Piano

Polly had a punishable day at work, so she needed a little fun and comfort. Polly visited Pushy to play games and watch tele together, and for dinner they ordered Palak Paneer from Brinda's.

Brinda's was new to Polly and Pushy. They learnt of it while running a search on Google, and saw that the delivery hotline was available 24h. The online Brinda's menu offered North Indian cuisine at afforable prices. Click the Brinda's logo for the contact number and menu.

Polly's rating for Brinda's is as follows:
  • Convenience: 5/5
  • Service: 4/5
  • Waiting time: 2/5 (Brinda's took 1.5h to arrive and Polly was starving when it did)
  • Deliciousness: 3/5
Dunno what Pushy has to say about his Brinda's.

Meal-time entertainment was Seinfeld. Pushy loves Seinfeld. Polly loves Pushy. So Polly loves Seinfeld.

After the food, Pushy wanted to brog. Pushy had earlier discovered the game Portal, so Pushy wanted to write about it. Polly was a little bored, so Polly went and fiddled with the electric piano Pushy has in his den.

Polly's love for piano had rekindled! But she sux at it.
O well, Polly's determined to play THIS. Sux or not.
